Actually I think that is an accurate paint job to the actual jets. I think the weathering is actually cammo which is typically only put on the top and sides of military aircraft, with the bottom being light and solid.
The thinking is so that if you are flying above an enemy with cloudy skies, a light solid underside helps hide you. If you are flying below an enemy over land, a splotchy cammo helps hide you better than a solid color. Blue skies above you or water below and solid vs. splotchy/cammo doesn't really matter.
